pay it forward

don't you love to get a parcel in the mail

A couple of weeks ago, I received a package in the mail.

,

It has quite the ancestry.

This package came from Greg at Males in Early Childhood in  Australia.

He got a parcel from Keirna from Learning for Life in Northern Ireland.

She got a package from Karen from Flights of Whimsy in Melbourne, Australia.

She got a parcel from Maureen at Strongstart in Comox, BC, Canada (just up the road from me).

She received a parcel from Sherry and Donna at irresistible ideas for play based learning (again) in Melbourne Australia.

Her package came from Scott from Brick by Brick from Tenessee, USA.

Scott got his package from Mom and Kiddo at What do We Do All Day in Brooklyn, New York.

Big city Mom received a package from Mouse Grows, Mouse Learns in California.

Her package came from Kylie at Our Worldwide Classroom in  (once again) Australia.

Kylie received a package from MaryLea at Pink and Green Mama.

And that is where my trail ran cold.

My package has an impressive pedigree!

The kidlets and I examined what was in the parcel.

We chatted about where it came from - Australia.  And figured it was not big enough to fit a kangaroo. Too bad.  They were quite excited to see Animalia - which is one of the best alphabet books ever and which they already know and love. We figured the map would be very useful so that we don't get lost, in case we wanted to visit. We should plant the seeds right away, and maybe they will be flowers when we come back in grade one.  And Little Rascal was a hit.

Little Rascal is a dragon whose wings are not  huge, who does not have 2 heads, who does not have big front claws and who cannot keep up and play with the bigger dragons.  But he is just the right size to rescue his friends.  The kidlets love the story and the illustrations.  More Little Rascal stories have been requested by the kidlets (and are available on Amazon or a local independent bookseller).

Thanks for all the surprises, Greg.

Now, we get to pay it forward.

Each time someone receives a parcel, they have to send a new parcel about their corner of the globe  to three new recipients.  (I did the math and if everyone from Pink and Green Mama on, sent out three packages, there should be 177,147 packages that have been enjoyed by children.)

So ...

If you would like to receive a parcel from Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada (my kidlets have some fun ideas for our package), AND you are willing to send on three parcels, here's what to do.

Leave a comment on this post that you would like to Pay it Forward. Please leave contact info in hopes that you will be randomly selected to get a parcel.

You can be from anywhere that I can mail a parcel to.

Since it is summer in half of the globe, and people are coming and going, I will leave this open until August 15  the end of July.

I will randomly choose three recipients to get a package from Vancouver Island.

After you receive your package, you will need to Pay it Forward in the same manner on your blog.

  6. Well you know how badly I'll want to pay it forward. There are so many amazing books and artifacts in Maine. I would do it super fast and send it on even before August if you want it to get somewhere quickly. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :)

  7. I'd love to be involved and would be happy to Pay it Forward from Leeds, United Kingdom.
I don't have a blog though (yet - give me time, it's on 'the list'!) but I do use facebook which puts me into contact with early years childcarers and educators in the UK and abroad.
    If this would be OK?
I will email you my contact details if I am chosen - I work from home so don't want to put them on such a public forum.
    Thanks x

  8. Hi Sandi! I teach a social studies course in early childhood education. What a meaningful learning opportunity this would be for the pre-service teachers in my class! We would love to Pay It Forward to contacts in the USA and abroad.

  11. What a great response you've had Sandi. The hard part is only choosing three. I hope you and the children enjoy all that is in the package. I hope the flowers turn out for you. You know,, Paul Jennings usually writes for older children and teens so those Rascal books are even more special.
I'm glad they arrived safely and you like what I sent. Enjoy for a long time to come.
    :)

    1. Thank you so much for the Greg! The kids have been having fun speaking Australian in honour of your package - G'day Mate and Good on ya. I think I should get a couple of packages of Tim Tams for the kids, reread Rascal, make some Wombat Stew and let thr kids wrestle a couple of crocodiles. We are enjoying paying it forward.
